Almost everyone is talking about Makeup Geek eyeshadows now, so I bought some and I put them into my Mac palette. The size of Makeup Geek eyeshadows is similar to Mac's, but notice that not like the Mac single refill eyeshadows, they don't have magnet at the back.
I bought 14 Makeup Geeks eyeshadows and one MAC single eyeshadow to build uo my own palette. Let's have a look.
Below is the swatches of them from top to bottom and from left to right.
Then into the detail part. Start from left side.
(L->R)Mac Soba; MUG Homecoming; Envy.
The first one from the left side is the only Mac one in the palette.
I saw other blog post said that Mac Soba is the same shade of Makeup Geek Preppy. The only difference is that Preppy is matte and Soba has a little bit sheen in it. But it's hard to tell on the eyes.
The middle one is Makeup Geek Homecoming (Medium brown with gold shimmer). This one is one of my favorites in this palette. The shimmer of it is a little metallic but not strong. The color payoff is super good even when you just slightly touch it. The powder is not very fine but very soft and easy to blend.
The one on the right side is Makeup Geek Envy (Deep metallic green). To be honest, I am not a big fan of this one. This one is not as soft as Homecoming and also the color has too black but not the metallic finish I want. But it can be very good if you use it wet.
(L->R)Peach Smoothie; Chickadee; Cocoa Bear.
I am definitely in love with these three matte shades. They are all easy to blend and have good pigmentation. Start from Peach Smoothie (A light peach beige with a soft matte finish). This one is very light so it is a perfect transition shade for light skin tone. This can make eye makeup very natural and cute.
Next one is a special color, Chickadee (Matte Yellow Orange). When I saw the picture one official website, I was so worried that this color won't be very daily and too bright. But actually it's not. It just warm up your eye makeup and feel so spring! I really like it.
Cocoa Bear (Matte reddish brown) is very popular for reason! It is a super warm brown and very unique. If you are suitable for warm eye makeup look., definitely check this one out.
(L->R) Cupcake; Cosmopolitan; Bitten.
Cupcake (Matte medium pink) is a matte dusty pink I would say. It's s very unique and cute color. Another shade Unexpected is the purple version of it. This would be a good transition color when you do pink or purple girly makeup.
I love Cosmopolitan (Rose Gold with gold flecks and a shimmery finish). I heard it is similar to Mac's Expensive pink. This is as soft and as good as Homecoming and I even think the powder is finer than Homecoming. This looks so good when applied on the whole eyelid.
Bitten (Matte deep maroon red) is also one of my favorites! This works so good on the crease to deep up the eye makeup.
(L->R) Prom night; Sensuous; Drama Queen.
Prom night (A pale purple with hints of grey and a shimmery finish) seems to be the dupe for MAC's Satin Taupe. This has the same quality of cosmopolitan. Love this too.
Sensuous (Shimmery Purple with Flecks of Silver) has nice color. But because of the flecks it feels not that soft. But the color payoff is quite good.
Drama Queen (A densely dark purple with a shimmery finish) has the similar feeling of Envy. But the color is nice. The deep purple is good to apply on outer V to deep up the look.
(L->R) Rockstar; Moondust; Galaxy.
Rockstar (Pale silver with purple iridescence) is so unique! The silver itself is not metallic finish but soft. It is described with purple iridescence, but I feel more like pink. You can tell it under the light. So pretty!
Moondust (Metallic silver taupe) is also my favorite. This has the same quality of Homecoming. Feel so soft when you touch it. and the color is easy to use on a daily base.
The last one is Galaxy (Metallic gunmetal). The feeling of this one is same as Drama Queen. I feel it has little flecks in it. But it is easy to blend on the eyes.
Overall, I really like Makeup Geek Eyeshadows. The regular ones are $5.99 each on the makeup geek official website, cheaper but some of them are as good as Mac eyeshadows. My top favorites of them are Cosmopolitan and Prom night because that these two's powders are the finest ones and they are super smooth and soft. Homecoming, Rockstar and Moondust are also very good. They are also super buttery and soft, easy to blend , but I feel they are not as fine as the first two I mentioned. The matte shades are also good and easy to work with but they are not as buttery as Lorac eyeshadows. And the matte shades are all quite unique! I am not a huge fan of the rest, including Senseous, Drama Queen, Galaxy and Envy. For the price, they are good. But they are not as good as the previous ones. But the point I am sure is that they are all easy to blend and work with. This is just my opinion on these eyeshadows. Really willing to try the foiled ones! Hope this is useful for you to choose from them!
